In our musical worship gatherings, what is conducive to bringing home the presence of God? Of truly letting our spirits be carried away on the wings of sound? The music itself is a big part, of course, but not the only part. The music must be technically excellent enough that it doesn't distract, but not so highly produced that it calls attention to itself and thereby distracts again. The songs that work the best tend to be more open melodically and harmonically with simpler and more repetitious lyrics that can be sung easily with as little reference to projected or printed lyrics as possible.
We believe the most effective worship leaders are those who simply get lost in worship themselves and let others follow. In effect, they present the musical vehicle for worship and then get out of the way--trying not to call attention to themselves and allowing the Spirit to do the heavy lifting.
These are obviously only general guidelines that we follow, and many different styles and techniques can work as well. As long as all efforts are focused on the primary goal of allowing everyone present to quiet mind and heart enough to become conscious of God's presence, then we're on the same page. And if these times of worship are then linked to our every waking moment, we're all well on the Way.
Take a look at the links above for a little more about our take on worship and more about the band and the music. If you have any questions or would like to talk more abouour music and worship ministry, contact our ministry leader.
